A mixture of phenylmercuric acetate and trifluoromethanesulfonic acid or silica gel supported phenylmercuric tri-fluoromethanesulfonate (silaphenyl mercuric triflate) efficiently catalyzed the formation of pyrroles from homopropargyl azide derivatives.
