The invention relates to the field of chemical synthesis, in particular to an edaravone impurity intermediate, a preparation method and application thereof. The edaravone impurity intermediate is mainly prepared through mixed reaction of edaravone, acetone, zinc chloride and acetic anhydride. Specifically, edaravone, pyruvic acid and zinc chloride are in a mole ratio of 20-30:5-10:0.8-1.5; the heating temperature is 50-60DEG C; the heating time is 5-10min; the washing solvent is selected from methanol, ethanol, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, tetrahydrofuran or a mixed solution thereof, preferably ethanol. The synthesis method provided by the invention has the advantages of mild reaction conditions and short reaction time, and the obtained compound has high yield and purity.
