The kinetics of the degenerate rearrangements of 5-R-1,2,3,4,5-pentamethyl-1,3-cyclopentadienes (R = C6H5S, C6F5S, C6H5Se, C6F5Se), which take place by a 1,2-shift of the group R, were studied by the dynamic PMR method.A comparison was made of the kinetic data on the 1,2-shifts of the H atom and CH3, C6H5, NO2, C6F5S, and C6F5Se groups in 5-R-1,2,3,4,5-pentamethyl-1,3-cyclopentadienes and in the "long-lived" carbocations in terms of the "reactivity-selectivity" principle.
