135810-42-3 Usage
General Description
10-(propan-2-yl)dibenzo[b,f][1,4]oxazepin-11(10H)-one, also known as clozapine, is a tricyclic dibenzodiazepine derivative that is commonly used as an antipsychotic medication. It acts by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain, which helps to alleviate symptoms of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. Clozapine is known for its efficacy in treating treatment-resistant schizophrenia and has also been shown to reduce the risk of suicidal behavior in patients with schizophrenia. However, it can also cause potentially serious side effects, including agranulocytosis, a severe decrease in white blood cell count, which requires regular monitoring of blood counts during treatment. Despite its drawbacks, clozapine remains an important medication in the treatment of schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses.
