2-Methyl-naphthopyran-4-one was condensed with various aromatic aldehydes.The 2-styryl derivatives IIa-e allowed to react with maleic anhydride, yielding the tetrahydroxanthone derivatives III.The reactivity of Ia, b and IIIa-d towards hydrazine hydrate, hydrazine derivatives, amines and Grignard reagents was investigated.The IR, and H1 NMR of the products are discussed.
