The hemilabile character of 2-pyridyl carbaldehyde hydrazones as N,N bidentate ligands is key to performing regioselective IrIII-catalyzed ortho borylations of 2-aryl pyridines(isoquinolines) and aromatic N,N-dimethylhydrazones (see scheme; pin=pinacol, Bn=benzyl).
