Reaction of cis- (M=Pt, L=PPh3, PMePh2, PMe2Ph, PBzPh2, L2=Ph2PCH2PPh2 , Ph2P2PPh2, Ph2P3PPh2 or Ph2P4PPh2; M=Pd, L2=Ph2P3PPh2) with α-acetamidocinnamic acid and silver(I) oxide affords quantitative yields of N-bonded η1-azaallyl complexes ; in contrast, the analogous of cis (L=PPh3, PMePh2, PMw2Ph; L2=Ph2P4PPh2) with 2-acetamidoacrylic acid leads to the isolation of the metallaoxacyclopentenone products , characterised by an X-ray study on the platinum complex where L=PMe2Ph.The complex exhibits a temperature-dependent 1H NMR spectrum.
