Resolving the issue: A near-perfect Pd-catalyzed kinetic resolution of 1,3-disubstituted unsymmetrical allylic acetates uses silyl enol ethers as nucleophiles to access the important 3-substituted-furanone scaffold (see scheme; DACH=diaminocyclohexyl, dba=dibenzylideneacetone).
