Azides R-N3 (R = aryl, acyl, cyclohexyl), react at -30 deg C spontaneously with the diaminostannylene 1 to give the distannadispirodecanes 2 and 3, or with the diaminogermylene 4 to give the digerma analogues 5.The dispirodecane systems, with an unusual linear combination of three four-membered rings, were fully characterized by X-ray and other spectroscopic methods. 4 gives, with 2 mol phenyl azide, the germatetrazoline 6, whose structure is also evidenced by X-ray spectroscopy.
