A mixture of E- and Z-α,β-acetylene aldimines was obtained by the reaction of 3-triethylgermylpropynal with aliphatic and aromatic amines.Condensation of weakly basic 4-nitro- and 2,6-dichloroanilines only takes place when the reacting substances are heated in the presence of catalytic amounts of p-toluenesulfonic acid.The corresponding secondary germanium-containing amines of the propargylic type are obtained in the reaction of α,β-acetylenic aldimines with complex metal hydrides (lithium aluminohydride and sodium borohydride).Degermylation was not observed in the reaction conditions.
