General Description
Drotaverin hydrochloride, also known as Drotaverine, is a synthetic derivative of isoquinoline that acts as a spasmolytic and analgesic agent. It works by inhibiting the phosphodiesterase enzyme, which leads to an increase in cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels in smooth muscle cells. This, in turn, results in relaxation of the smooth muscle in the blood vessels and gastrointestinal tract, leading to vasodilation and decreased muscle contractions. Drotaverin hydrochloride is commonly used to alleviate spasms and pain in conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, uterine and biliary colic, and other smooth muscle disorders. It is well-tolerated and has a good safety profile, making it a widely used drug for the treatment of smooth muscle spasm-related conditions.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 14009-24-6 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,4,0,0 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 2 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 14009-24:
(7*1)+(6*4)+(5*0)+(4*0)+(3*9)+(2*2)+(1*4)=66
66 % 10 = 6
So 14009-24-6 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Synthesis of 14C labelled drotaverinum hydrochloride
Koltai,Banfi,Engler,et al.
, p. 351 - 354,352,353 (2007/10/05)
Drotaverinum hydrochloride was labelled with 14C isotope in position 1 of the isoquinoline ring. A rapid synthesis with high radiochemical yield was elaborated.
