A novel and facile approach for synthesis of 5-amino-7-aryl-6-cyano-4H- pyrano[3,2-b]pyrroles

An efficient and iron-catalysed synthesis of 4H-pyrano[3,2-b]pyrrole is reported. The reactions proceed through a one-pot, three component cyclocondensation of 3-hydroxypyrrole, malononitrile and various aldehydes to afford 4H-pyrano[3,2-b]pyrrole derivatives in moderate to good yield using ferric hydrogensulphate, Fe(HSO4)3, as the catalyst.
