Usage

General Description

MU-Conotoxin GIIIB is a potent neurotoxic peptide that was initially isolated from the venom of the marine cone snail, Conus geographus. It is composed of 22 amino acids, including five disulfide bonds, making it one of the most structurally complex cone snail toxins. MU-Conotoxin GIIIB works by selectively blocking sodium channels in neurons, thereby inhibiting the firing of action potentials. This blocking action is extremely potent, making the toxin potentially useful in the development of new analgesic drugs. However, the high level of specificity and complexity of the toxin also presents significant challenges in terms of understanding its function and harnessing it for therapeutic purposes.
