Novel Synthesis of Coumarin-3-yl-1,3-thiazole, 2-(Coumarin-3-carbonyl)thienopyridine and 2-(Coumarin-3-carbonyl)thiophene Derivatives

The active methylene reagents 1a-d react with phenyl isothiocyanate followed by cyclization with 3-bromoacetylcoumarin 2 to afford the thiazole derivatives 5a-d, whereas 1e-g react with the same reagents at both low and high temperatures to afford the thiophene derivatives 6e-g and the thiazole derivatives 5e-g.The reaction of the dimeric adducts 13a,b with the same reagents affords the thienopyridine derivatives 12a,b.Reaction of benzoyl isothiocyanate with 1a-c followed by cyclization with 2 affords the thiazole derivatives 16a-c.
