The first acyclonucleosides derived from the 4-quinolone system have been synthesized using the "silyl" procedure for glycosylation. The side chain introduced is the hydroxyethoxy methyl one that is present in the antiviral agent acyclovir.Lipase-mediated selective acylation was carried out in the deprotected acyclonucleosides affording derivatives in quantitative yields. All the newly synthesized compounds were tested as antiviral agents, but none of them showed significant activity.
