14507-19-8 Usage
Uses
Different sources of media describe the Uses of 14507-19-8 differently. You can refer to the following data:
1. Lanthanum Hydroxide, also called Lanthanum Hydrate, is mainly applied in specialty glass, water treatment and catalyst. Various compounds of lanthanum and other rare-earth elements (Oxides, Chlorides, etc.) are components of various catalysis, such as petroleum cracking catalysts. Small amounts of Lanthanum added to steel improves its malleability, resistance to impact, and ductility, whereas addition of Lanthanum to Molybdenum decreases its hardness and sensitivity to temperature variations. Small amounts of Lanthanum are present in many pool products to remove the Phosphates that feed algae.
2. Lanthanum hydroxide is used to prepare other lanthanum salts.
3. Lanthanum(III) hydroxide is used in three way catalyst, glass, ceramic and electronic industry.
Chemical Properties
white, amorphous precipitate; absorbs CO2 [MER06]
Physical properties
White amorphous solid; decomposes on heating; insoluble in water.
Preparation
Lanthanum hydroxide is precipitated by adding excess of caustic soda, caustic potash or ammonia to an aqueous solution of a La3+ salt, such as LaCl3, La(NO3)3 or La(SO4)3: La3+ + 3OHˉ → La(OH)3.
Flammability and Explosibility
Nonflammable
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 14507-19-8 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,4,5,0 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 1 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 14507-19:
(7*1)+(6*4)+(5*5)+(4*0)+(3*7)+(2*1)+(1*9)=88
88 % 10 = 8
So 14507-19-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
