It is a colorless, volatile liquid with a molecular weight of 169.92 g/mol. The chemical structure consists of a carbon-carbon backbone with two chlorine atoms, three fluorine atoms, and one fluorine atom bonded to an oxygen atom. Due to its high ozone depletion potential and global warming potential, the production and use of 1-fluoroxy 2,2-dichlorotrifluoroethane have been phased out under the Montreal Protocol to protect the ozone layer and mitigate climate change.
