The forming of a charge-transfer (CT) complex between the donators amphetamine, bamethane, etilefrine, oxyfedrine, phendimetracine and pholedrine with tetracyanoethylene has been analyzed spectrophotometrically. While there are formed CT complexes in chloroform, 1,2-dichloromethane only produces complexes with oxyfedrine and phendimetracine. All donators reacting with TCNE in 1,2-dichloromethane produce the pentacyanopropenide anion. In addition, amphetamine reacts with TCNE forming 1-phenyl-2-(tricyanoethenyl)amino propane.
