HETEROCYCLIZATION OF NAPHTHYLPROPIOLIC ACIDS BY THE ACTION OF HYDROGEN BROMIDE AND SULFUR DIOXIDE OR SELENIUM DIOXIDE

, p. 579 - 581 (2007/10/02)
3-(2-naphthyl)propiolic acid is converted by the action of the sulfur dioxide and hydrogen bromide into 3-bromonaphthothiophene-2-carboxylic acid, but its isomer 3-(1-naphthyl)propiolic acid does not form sulfur-containing heterocycles. Both naphthylpropiolic acids are converted into the corresponding naphthoselenophenes by the action of selenium dioxide and hydrogen bromide.
