Some new 4-thiazolidinone derivatives bearing 1,3,4-thiadiazole moiety have been synthesised by treating thiosemicarbazide with 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid in presence of phosphorous oxychloride.This on treatment with aromatic aldehydes gave Schiff bases of thiadiazoles which on further reaction with thioglycolic, thiolactic and thiomalic acids, yielded the desired products.The structures of the compounds have been established by elemental analyses and spectral study.The compounds have been evaluated for their antimicrobial activity against different microorganisms.
