The first base-stabilized phosphino- and arsinoalane monomers, H2AlEMes2·NMe3(Mes = mesityl; 1, E = P; 2, E = As) have been prepared. Thermolysis at 95°C converts 1 to the trimer [H2AlPMes2]3 (3); further heating at 125°C results in the formation of Mes2PH and aluminum metal.
