General Description

3H-Indolium, 2-[2-(4-hydroxy-3,5-diiodophenyl)ethenyl]-3,3-dimethyl-1-(3-sulfopropyl)-, inner salt, also known as DiI, is a fluorescent lipophilic tracer commonly used in neuroscience research to label and study neuronal connectivity. It is capable of labeling individual neurons, allowing for the visualization of axonal and dendritic arbors. DiI is highly photostable and can be used for long-term imaging studies. It is typically delivered by microinjection or by application to tissue slices, where it is taken up by cell membranes and transported along neuronal processes.
