Dichlorocarbene reacts with spiro(bicycloocta-2,5-diene-8,1'-cyclopropane) nonselectively at both double bonds.Spiro(3,3-dichlorotricyclo2,4>non-6-ene-9,1'-cyclopropane) (the adduct of the carbene at the norbornene double bond) isomerizes with opening of the three-membered ring.Diazomethane adds exclusively at the norbornene double bond of the diene in the presence of palladium acetate.
