4-Acyl-2,3-dihydropyrrole-2,3-diones react with o-aminobenzenethiol to give substituted 1,2,3,10a-tetrahydro-5H-pyrrolobenzothiazepine-2,3-diones, which undergo recyclization into 1,2,3,5,10,10a-hexahydropyrrolobenzothiazepine-2,3-dione under the action of o-phenylenediamine.
