Description

Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF), also known as human fibroblast growth factor 7 (FGF-7), is an 18.9 kDa growth factor composed of 163 amino acids. It belongs to the fibroblast growth factor family and shares 39% identity with FGF-Basic. KGF is expressed in various stromal fibroblast cell lines and mesenchymal cells but is absent from normal glial cells and epithelial cell lines. It plays a crucial role in the growth, development, and repair of epithelial tissues.

Uses

Used in Epithelial Growth Medium:
Keratinocyte Growth Factor, Human is used as a component of epithelial growth medium to support the growth and proliferation of epithelial cells, which are essential for maintaining the integrity and function of various tissues and organs.
Used in Research and Development:
KGF is used as a positive control for antigen to determine the activity of antibodies targeting KGF. This application is vital for validating the specificity and effectiveness of antibodies in research and diagnostic applications.
Used in Medical Applications:

Biochem/physiol Actions

Keratinocyte Growth Factor(KGF) stimulates proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes and other cells in the epithelium. It induces chemotaxis of microvascular endothelial cells and neovascularization of rat cornea. It stimulates the hyaluronic acid synthesis in proliferating and migrating basal cells. KGF contributes to the survival of cells under stress conditions. KGF is highly expressed in injured and inflamed epithelial cells, thereby, promotes wound healing.
