REACTION OF N-ARYLSULFONYL-1,4-NAPHTHOQIONONE 4-IMINES WITH TOSYLHYDRAZINE

N-Arylsulfonyl-2-chloro(bromo)-1,4-naphthoquinone 4-imines react with tosylhydrazine to form 2-tosyl-4-diaza-1,4-naphthoquinone.With tosylhydrazine N-arylsulfonyl-1,4-naphthoquinone 4 -imines unsubstituted at the second reactive position form 4-arylsulfonylamino-4-tosyl-1-oxo-1,4-dihydronaphthalenes.The latter are unstable compounds which isomerize in the light to 4-arylsulfonylamino-1-naphthols.
