General Description
DL-isoproterenol, also known as isoprenaline, is a synthetic catecholamine that acts as a non-selective beta-adrenergic agonist. It is commonly used as a bronchodilator to treat conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by relaxing the smooth muscles of the airways, making it easier to breathe. It works by stimulating beta-2 adrenergic receptors, leading to relaxation of the bronchial smooth muscles. Additionally, DL-isoproterenol can also be used to temporarily increase heart rate and cardiac output in cases of heart block or slow heart rate.
