The novel, five-co-ordinate ruthenium(II) species (L2 = S-biphemp) has been synthesized and characterized, as well as its S-binap analogue. The solution behaviour and reactivity of toward carbon monoxide and molecular hydrogen is described. The acetato derivatives 2-O2CCH3)(PPh3)(L2)> and 2-O2CCH3)2(L2)> were also prepared. The synthesis and reactivity of the tetrahydroborato adduct 2-BH4)(PPh3)(L2)> are described.
