New unsymmetrical diphosphazanes of the type X2PN(Pri)PYY' are prepared and converted into their mono- and di-oxides or sulfides. These can function as heterofunctional ligands through P,S,N or O donor sites. These compounds have been characterized by NMR spectroscopic studies.Variable temeprature 31P NMR measurements on some of these compounds reveal the presence of different types of conformers in solution.Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies have been carried out for Ph2(S)N(Pri)PPh(N2C3HMe2-3,5) (2g) and Ph2P(O)N(Pri)P(O)Ph(OC5H4N-2) (5h). Organometallic chemistry of diphosphazanes VIII. Synthesis, spectroscopic studies and crystal structure of fac-iPr)P(Ph)(DMP)>>, and its reactions with tertiary phosphines

The reaction of fac- with the unsymmetrical diphosphazane Ph2PN(i-Pr)P(Ph)(DMP) (L) gives the complex fac- (2) in almost quantitative yield. The structure of the complex has been determined by an X-ray diffraction study. The compound reacts with PR3 (where R = Ph, OPh) to give fac- (3a, 4a), which undergoes an intramolecular isomerization to afford mer- (3b,4b).Synthesis of cis- (1) and fac- (2a) and their spectroscopic data are also reported.
