Facile syntheses of amino-6-deoxyaldohexoses from simple achiral starting materials

Three kinds of amino-6-deoxyaldohexoses are synthesized from simple achiral starting materials, trans-crotonaldehyde and chloroacetic acid, via the three key steps of the chiral tin(II) triflate-mediated asymmetric aldol reaction, the dihydroxylation using osmium tetroxide, and the SN2 displacement of the corresponding triflates with azide anions.
