A modified Reformatsky reaction has been developed which allows for the reproductible preparation of α,α-difluoro-β-hydroxy- and γ-amino-α,α-difluoro-β-hydroxy esters in good yield from the corresponding aldehyde, ketone, or α-N-carbamoyl aldehyde.
