The reaction of 2-diazopropane with 3,3-dimethyl-1-phenyl-2-phenylethynylcyclopropene occurs exclusively at the double bond of the conjugated enyne system and gives the single product of 1,3-dipolar addition, 4,4,6,6-tetramethyl-1-phenyl-5-phenylethynyl-2,3-diazabicyclohex-2-ene.In the presence of KOH 3-(1-benzylidene-3-phenyl-2-propynyl)-3,5,5-trimethyl-1-pyrazoline was also isolated; it was formed as a result of addition of 2-diazopropane to the product of the ring cleavage of the original cyclopropane under the action of alkali.
