2-Aryl-5-H/methyl/carboxymethyl-3-[4-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzamido) benzoylamino]thiazolidin-4-ones (3a-m, 4a-m and 5a-m) have been synthesised by the cyclocondensation of thioglycolic acid/thiolactic acid/thiomalic acid with N-substituted benzal-4-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzamido)benzoylhydrazines (2a-m) which in turn are prepared by the action of aryldehydes on 4-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzamido)benzoylhydrazide (1). The structures of the compounds 2a-m, 3a-m and 5a-m have been confirmed from elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and mass spectral data. All the products are evaluated for their in vitro growth inhibitory activity against several microbes like S. aureus, S. pyogens, E. coli, K. arogens and A. niger.
