A series of new organomercury hydrides, including aromatic and fluoroaromatic compounds, have been characterised by mass and NMR spectroscopy. Unusual features of these compounds included an unusually downfield chemical shift for the Hg-H proton, confirmed by deuterium substitution, and a high value for the 199Hg-H coupling constant. The half-life for dilute solutions of methylmercury hydride was in the region of 1-3 h.
