The invention discloses a preparation method of cyclopentene triketone, and belongs to the technical field of battery electrolyte additives. The method comprises the steps of adopting cyclopentene as a raw material, carrying out bromination reaction with NBS in an organic solvent in the presence of a catalyst, heating until refluxing during reaction, controlling the reaction time to be 0.5-2 hours, carrying out washing and skimming after reaction is completed; adding a sodium carbonate solution to an organic phase to have hydrolysis, dispersing and concentrating the sodium carbonate solution after hydrolysis to obtain 4-cyclopentene-1,2,3-triketone. The preparation method is simple in process, easy to control, stable in reaction process and few in by-products and can be applied to high-voltage system employing a ternary material as a positive electrode.
