Reactions of 3-C3H5)(CO)(Pi-Pr3)2> and 2-C2Ph2)(CO)(Pi-Pr3)2> with terminal alkynes: synthesis and characterization of new five- and six-coordinate bis(alkynyl) and alkynyl(vinyl) derivatives of ruthenium(II)

The reaxction of the complex with C3H5MgBr affords 3-C3H5)(CO)(Pi-Pr3)2> (2).This complex reacts with terminal alkynes.With CyC2H it yields (3), whereas with Me3SiC2H it gives a mixture of (4) and (CO)(Pi-Pr3)2> (5). 4 was obtained as a spectroscopically pure oil by reaction of (15) with Me3SiC2H. 2 also reacts with PhC2Ph giving 2-C2Ph2)(CO)(Pi-Pr3)2> (6), which with RC2H then yields (CO)(Pi-Pr3)2> (R=Cy (11), or- CO2CH3 (12).Under CO, 3 and 4 give (R=Cy (7) or (Me3Si (8)), but 5, 11 and 12 afford (CO)2(Pi-Pr3)2> (R=Me3Si (9), Cy (13), or -CO2CH3 (14)). 15 catalyzes ther cyclotrimerization of methyl propiolate to give a mixture of 1,3,5-C6H3(CO2CH3)3 and 1,2,4-C6H3(CO2CH3)3 in a 2:1 molar ratio.Keywords: Ruthenium; Bis(alkynyl) complexes; Alkynyl(vinyl) complexes; Allyl complexes; Reactions

The tetrahydrido complex (1) reacts with diphenylacetylene to give cis- and trans-stilbene and 2-C2Ph2)(CO)(P-i-Pr3)2> (5).The X-ray crystal structure of 5 has been determined. 5 reacts with CO to give 2-C2Ph2)(CO)2(P-i-Pr3)2> (6).The related ruthenium complex 2-C2Ph2)(CO)(P-i-Pr3)2> (7) was obtained by reaction of 2-H2BH2)(CO)(P-i-Pr3)2> (8) with diphenylacetylene. 7 reacts with CO to give (9) and diphenylacetylene. The synthesis of the hydridovinyl complex (10) is also reported.Key words: Ruthenium; Osmium
