The 5(10H)-phenazinyl radicals 1b-k have been prepared by reduction of the corresponding phenazinium salts 6b-k with ascorbic acid or potassium hexacyanoferrate(II) and were studied using EPR, ENDOR and general triple resonance spectroscopy. The results led to a complete analysis and full assignment of the HFC constants. Our assignment differs from that previously proposed. In many details the spin delocalization in the 5(10H)-phenazinyl system corresponds to that in diphenyl aminyl.Protonation provided the corresponding radical cations 2b-k which were also studied.
