Treatment of CpRu(PPh3)(CO)SH, 1 with the sulfur transfer reagents RSphth gave the complexes CpRu(PPh3)-(CO)SSR (2a-c), where phth = phthalimido and R = 4-C6H4Me, (a), 1-C3H7, (b), and CHMe2, (c), rare examples of complexes containing disulfanido ligands. Crystal data for 1 P1, a = 9.408(11) ?, b = 10.6168(9) ?, c = 11.6499(5) ?, α = 76.523(6)°, β = 78.896(8)°, γ = 78.562(8)°, V = 1314.9 ?3, Z = 2. Crystal data for 2c: P21/n, a = 9.274(2) ?, b = 11.345(3) ?, c = 25.303(6) ?, β = 97.37(2)°, V = 2640.2?3, Z = 4. Treatment of 1 with the disulfur transfer reagents RSSphth gave the complexes CpRu(PPh3)(CO)SSSR (3a-c) possessing even rarer trisulfanido ligands. Crystal data for 3b: P1, a = 10.643(2) ?, b = 14.040(3) ?, c = 9.205(3) ?, α = 98.11(2)°, β = 97.26(2)°, γ = 96.46(2)°, V = 1338.9 ?3, Z = 2. The di- and trisulfanido ligands are resistant to loss of sulfur.
