An efficient and straightforward multicomponent synthetic protocol has been developed for the preparation of three kinds of highly functionalised piperidines via multicomponent reaction between aromatic aldehydes, ammonium acetate, cyanoacetates and/or nitromethane for the generation of a wide range of structurally interesting and pharmacologically significant compounds. The structure of ethyl 3-cyano-2,4,6-tris(4-methoxyphenyl)-5-nitropiperidine-3- carboxylate, ethyl 3-cyano-2,4,6-tris(3-methoxyphenyl)-5-nitropiperidine-3- carboxylate and diethyl 3,5-dicyano-2,4,6-tris(3-methoxyphenyl)piperidine-3,5- dicarboxylate were further confirmed by X.ray single crystal analysis.
