The present invention is a method for preparing an alkyl sulfone compound represented by formula (2), comprising: oxidizing an alkyl sulfide compound represented by formula (1) using an oxidizing agent in the presence of a tungstate catalyst: in formula (1), R1 represents a C1-C3 alkyl group, and R2 represents a C3-C5 alkyl group, in formula (2), R1 and R2 are the same alkyl groups as R1 and R2 in formula (1), respectively.
