An unexpected dinuclear Cu(II) complex, [Cu2 (L 2)2] (H2L2 = 3- methoxysalicylaldehyde-O-(2-hydroxyethyl)oxime) has been synthesized through the complexation of Cu(OAc)2H2O with an asymmetrical Salamo-type compound 6-ethyloxy-6'-methoxy-2,2'- [ethylenediyldioxybis(nitrilomethylidyne)]diphenol (H2L1). The catalysis of Cu(II) ions results in the unexpected cleavage of one of the N-O bonds in the ligand H2L1, giving a novel dialkoxo-bridged dinuclear Cu(II) complex possessing a Cu-O-Cu-O four-membered ring core instead of the usually desired Salamo-type Cu-N2O 2 mononuclear complex. In the crystal structure, two intermolecular hydrogen bonds, C2-H2BO3 and C2-H2BO4 linked the neighboring molecules into an infinite chain parallel to the a axis.

Newly designed hetero-dinuclear 3d–4f complex [Cu(L)La (NO3)2(μ-NO3)(H2O)]·EtOH (1), hetero-tetranuclear 3d–4f complex [Cu(L)Ce (NO3)2(μ-NO3)(OAc)2]2·MeOH (2) and hetero-multinuclear 3d–4f complexes [{Cu(L)Ln (NO3)3}2][Cu(L)Ln (NO3)3]2 (Ln = Pr (3) and Nd = (4)) have been self-assembled from the reaction of Cu (OAc)2·H2O, Ln (NO3)3·6H2O (Ln = La, Ce, Pr and Nd) with an unsymmetric salamo-like bisoxime ligand H2L (6-Methoxy-6′-ethoxy-2,2′-[ethylenedioxybis (nitrilomethylidyne)]diphenol) based on a Schiff base condensation of 2-[O-(1-ethoxyamide)]oxime-6-methoxyphenol and 3-ethoxysalicylaldehyde. The structures of complexes 1–4 were characterized by elemental analyses, PXRD analyses, IR, UV–Vis spectra, and single-crystal X-ray analyses. In addition, the supramolecular interactions and fluorescence properties of complexes 1–4 are discussed in detail. Moreover, the antioxidant activities of the complexes 1–4 were determined by superoxide radical-scavenging method in vitro, which indicates that the complexes 1–4 all show potential antioxidant properties.
Investigating into crystal structures and supramolecular architectures of four newly synthesized hetero-octanuclear [CuII4-LnIII4] (Ln = Sm, Eu, Tb and Dy) complexes produced by a hexadentate bisoxime chelate ligand

Four unprecedented 3d-4f hetero-octanuclear family-type complexes [{Cu(L)Ln(NO3)3}2][Cu(L)Ln(NO3)3]2 (Ln = Sm (1), Eu (2), Tb (3) and Dy (4)) were synthesized by an unsymmetric single salamo-like ligand H2L (6-Methoxy-6′-ethoxy-2,2′-[ethylenedioxybis(nitrilomethylidyne)]diphenol) with Cu(OAc)2·H2O and Ln(NO3)3·6H2O (Ln = Sm, Eu, Tb and Dy), respectively. X-ray crystallography revealed that each hetero-octanuclear 3d-4f metal complexes [{Cu(L)Ln(NO3)3}2][Cu(L)Ln(NO3)3]2 contains one neutral dimer [{Cu(L)Ln(NO3)3}2] unit and two independent [Cu(L)Ln(NO3)3] units. At the same time, the four Cu(II) atoms of the complexes 1–4 have four- and five-coordinated configurations, while the four Ln(III) atoms have only one configuration, all of which are ten-coordinated. The structures of the four complexes 1–4 were characterized via elemental analyses, PXRD, FT-IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy. In addition, while studying the crystal structure, the supramolecular interactions and spectral properties of the complexes 1–4 were studied in detail.

Abstract: In the present study, we describe a reaction of Cu(OAc)2·H2O and Gd(NO3)3·6H2O with equimolar amounts of the asymmetric salamo-type ligand 6-methoxy-6′-ethoxy-2,2′-[ethylenedioxybis(azinomethyl)]diphenol (H2L) generated by Schiff base condensation of 2-[O-(1-ethyloxyamide)]oxime-3-methoxy-phenol with 3-ethoxysalicylaldehyde to obtain a novel 3d–4f hetero-polynuclear complex [{Cu(L)Gd(NO3)3}2] [Cu(L)Gd(NO3)3]2. The complex is fully characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), elemental analyses, FTIR and UV-Vis spectra. The phase purity is clearly confirmed by powder XRD. In the [CuII–GdIII] complex, the coordination environments of CuII ions are different, but the apical coordination atoms to the GdIII ions are nearly identical. The antibacterial and fluorescent properties of the H2L ligand and the [CuII–GdIII] complex are also investigated. Supramolecular interactions are studied in detail.
