Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Curcumin is utilized as a therapeutic agent for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which contribute to its potential in managing various inflammatory and oxidative stress-related conditions. Its ability to modulate multiple signaling pathways involved in inflammation and oxidative stress makes it a promising candidate for the treatment of chronic diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, and cardiovascular disorders.
Used in Cancer Prevention and Treatment:
Curcumin is employed as a chemopreventive and therapeutic agent in oncology due to its ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, induce apoptosis, and modulate various molecular targets associated with carcinogenesis. Its potential to act against multiple stages of cancer development, including initiation, promotion, and progression, positions curcumin as a valuable compound in both cancer prevention and treatment strategies.
Used in Neurodegenerative Disease Management:
Curcumin is used as a neuroprotective agent in the context of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, given its capacity to mitigate oxidative stress, inflammation, and protein aggregation. Its multi-targeted approach to neuroprotection highlights its potential in managing the complex pathophysiology of these conditions.
Used in Food Industry:
Curcumin is used as a natural colorant and flavoring agent in the food industry, capitalizing on its vibrant yellow color and characteristic taste derived from turmeric. Its application in food products not only enhances visual appeal but also contributes to the health-promoting properties of these products.
Challenges and Ongoing Research:
Despite its promising therapeutic potential, the clinical application of curcumin is limited by its low bioavailability and poor stability. To address these challenges, ongoing research is focused on the development of curcumin analogues and novel formulations, such as nanoparticles, liposomes, and conjugation with other bioactive molecules, to enhance its solubility, absorption, and overall efficacy. These advancements aim to unlock the full potential of curcumin as a versatile and beneficial compound for human health.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 163405-36-5 includes 9 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 6 digits, 1,6,3,4,0 and 5 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 3 and 6 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 163405-36:
(8*1)+(7*6)+(6*3)+(5*4)+(4*0)+(3*5)+(2*3)+(1*6)=115
115 % 10 = 5
So 163405-36-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

A recyclable polymer-supported ruthenium catalyst for the oxidative degradation of bisphenol A in water using hydrogen peroxide

Hu, Zongmin,Leung, Chi-Fai,Tsang, Yat-Kwai,Du, Hongxia,Liang, Haojun,Qiu, Yongfu,Lau, Tai-Chu

, p. 149 - 155 (2011)

A polypyridyl ruthenium(ii) complex, cis-[RuII(2,9-Me 2phen)2(H2O)2]2+, has been adsorbed onto the cation-exchange resins Dowex-50W and Chelex-100. The potential use of the supported ruthenium(ii) complex as catalyst for the oxidative degradation of organic pollutants in water has been investigated using bisphenol A, an emerging endocrine disruptor, as substrate; and the environmentally friendly H2O2 as oxidant. These solid-supported catalysts are found to be efficient for the degradation of bisphenol A in aqueous solution by H2O2 under ambient conditions. The intermediates and products formed during the oxidative degradation of bisphenol A by these catalytic systems have been identified and a mechanism is proposed. The supported catalysts are easily recovered by simple filtration and display no loss of activity when recycled.
