SYBR(R) GREEN I NUCLEIC ACID GEL STAIN is an asymmetrical cyanine dye used for detecting nucleic acids. It consists of a N-alkylated benzothiazolium or benzoxazolium ring system, joined by a monomethine bridge to a pyridinium or quinolinium ring system. This cationic unsymmetrical cyanine dye binds to the minor groove of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) and is excited at a wavelength of 480 nm, with a peak fluorescence emission of 520 nm.
