The aminodihydropentalene derivative 1a reacts with the Lewis acidic RB(C6F5)2 boranes (2a-c) by C-C bond cleavage to yield the formal borylene insertion products 3. In contrast, 1a,b react with HB(C6F5/su

There is disclosed a new boron-containing compounds such as bis-(pentafluorophenyl)borane, (C6 F5)2 BH and related compounds and a method for producing the compounds. The new borane is suitable for use as a hydroboration reagent for the rapid hydroboration of alkenes and alkynes. The borane is also suitable for use as a hydroboration reagent to produce useful boron reagents that can be used in Ziegler-Natta homogeneous olefin polymerization catalyst systems. Specifically, the borane reagent can be used to produce Cp2 Zr{η3 -CH(C6 H5)[(μ-H)B(C6 F5)2 ]}, which exhibits an efficacy for polymerization of ethylene.
