The ferrocenylimine 5-C5H5)(η5-C5H4CH2N=CH(C6H3Cl2-2,6))> has been prepared by condensation of aminomethylferrocene and 2,6-dichlorobenzaldehyde, and characterized by IR, NMR (1H and 13C) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The compound is triclinic, space group P1, with a = 7.553(3), b = 11.763(2), c = 18.148(2) Angstroem, α = 89.94(1), β = 98.90(2) and γ = 91.91(2) deg.It reacts with Na2 and NaO2CMe*3H2O in a 1 : 1 : 1 molar ratio, producing the di-μ-chloro-bridged cyclopalladated complex 5-C5H4)Fe(η5-C5H5)>(μ-Cl))2>.Further treatment of this compound with triphenylphosphine results in cleavage of the Pd(μ-Cl)2Pd units, yielding the monomeric derivative 5-C5H4)Fe(η5-C5H5))Cl(PPh3)>.These compounds contain an endocyclic five-membered palladocycle fused with the phenyl ring and arise by activation of a ?(C-Cl) bond. The reactivity of N-(2,6-dichlorobenzylidene)benzylamine and the analogous ferrocenyl Schiff bases is compared.
Schiff bases derived from aminomethylferrocene and their cyclopalladated derivatives

, p. 147 - 154 (2007/10/02)
Synthesis and characterization of novel Schiff bases derived from aminomethylferrocene of general formula: 5-C5H5)Fe5-C5H4)-CH2-N=CH(C6H4-2-R)>> with R=Cl (1a) and H (1b) are reported. These react with Na2 and Na(CH3COO)*3H2O in methanol at room temperature producing di-μ-chloro-bridged cyclopallated compounds -CH2-(η5-C5H4)>Fe(η5-C5H5)>(μ-Cl)>>2 (2a, 2b) which contain a ?(Pd-Csp2 phenyl) bond. However, for (1b), the activation of the ?(Csp2,ferrocene-H) bond also takes place giving =CH(C6H5)>Fe(η5-C5H5)>(μ-Cl)>2 (2b').These dinuclear complexes react with triphenylphosphine (PPh3) with cleavage of the μ-Cl bridges, yielding mononuclear derivatives (3).The results obtained show the strong influence of the so-called endo effect in cyclopalladation reactions of N-donor ferrocenyl ligands. Keywords: Iron; Palladium; Cyclopalladation; Aminoferrocenes; Schiff bases
