Ethyl 3-amino-4-(4-chlorophenyl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydrothienoquinoline-2-carboxylate (1) was converted into the corresponding 3-(1-pyrrolyl) derivative 2.Various derivatives of 2 were prepared.The synthesis of the title compounds and other related heterocyclic systems are reported.
