Synthesis and crystal structure of a novel heterocyclic compound bearing a pentacoordinate germanium atom and a deprotonated HMPA moiety

The synthesis and crystal structure of a novel heterocyclic compound, 1,3,2,5-oxazaphosphagermolidin-2-ium-5-uide, was analysed. The compound was synthesized by sequential treatment of hexamethylphosphoric triamide (HMPA) with t-BuLi and a hydrogermane. Crystal structure of the compound was examined by x-ray crystallography. The analysis confirmed the intramolecular coordination of the oxygen atom to the germanium atom in both crystalline and solution states.
