The crystal structure of *NC5H3(NH2)2-2,6>2 has demonstrated that the in-built triple hydrogen-bonding functionality of the co-ordinated orotate is able to recognise at a molecular level 2,6-diaminopyridine, which has complementary hydrogen-bonding groups; this designed complementarity has produced a more efficient hydrogen-bonding arrangement than that possible in alone
