REACTIONS WITH HYDRAZONOYL HALIDES XI: SYNTHESIS AND REACTIONS OF 1-BROMO-2-(4-CYANO-5-PHENYL-1-p-TOLYLPYRAZOL-3-YL)-ETHANEDIONE 1-PHENYLHYDRAZONE

3-Bromoacetyl-5-phenyl-1-p-tolylpyrazole-4-carbonitrile 2 reacted with dimethyl sulfide in ethanol to give dimethylsulfonium bromide 3, which reacted with N-nitrosoacetanilide to afford a hydrazonoyl bromide 4.Compound 4 reacted with sodium benzenethiolate, sodium benzenesulfinate, thiourea and potassium thiocyanate to afford the corresponding 5, 6, phenylazothiazole 8 and dihydrothiadiazole 9, respectively. 4 is utilized also for the synthesis of several heterocycles via its reactions with 2-aminobenzenethiol, 2-aminothiazoles, 2-sulfonylimidazoles, ω-benzenesulfonylace tophenone and cyanothioacetamides.Structural assignments have been made on the basis of elemental analyses, spectral data and independent synthesis wherever possible.
