It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water and has a molecular weight of 354.03 g/mol. benzene-1,4-diylbis(arsonic acid) is formed by the attachment of two arsono groups (As(OH)2) to the 1 and 4 positions of a benzene ring. Benzene-1,4-diylbis(arsonic acid) has been used in the past as an anti-infective agent, particularly in the treatment of trypanosomiasis, a disease caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma. However, due to its toxicity and the development of safer alternatives, its use in medicine has been largely discontinued. The compound is also known for its potential environmental and health risks, as arsenic is a toxic metalloid that can cause various health issues when ingested or inhaled.
